About Me

My journey from overwhelm to a place of balance

Meet Claire

I came to yoga during a stressful time in my life. I was juggling a fast paced corporate job with the demands of two young children. Feeling overwhelmed and near burnout, I turned to yoga. What began with a week’s yoga retreat in Spain when my first child was 18 months old, turned into a lifelong love. 10 years later, I can safely say yoga has transformed my life, making me feel stronger and more supple in my body, more aware and connected to my mind. Through yoga I’ve learned to slow down and live in the moment with a renewed sense of self compassion and gratitude.

I’ve learned through years of practice that yoga is an intimate, unique experience and this is at the heart of my teaching. Ultimately, we are all different, from our elasticity to our bone structure, and every pose will vary from one person to the next. In my classes, I urge you to make yoga work for you and connect with what’s going on inside your body and your mind. The beauty is that yoga is a journey for us all.

My teaching and practice continue to evolve, I’ve worked with some of the most inspiring teachers, from Jason Crandell to Tashi Dawa and Celeste Pereira, and each time I learn something new.

What’s interesting to me, is how the Western way is so counterintuitive to how our bodies need to move. Restricted by social normative postures and movements, we limit our bodies. For me, there’s nothing more fascinating than our anatomy versus our society, and the tonic yoga can offer both mentally and physically.

A graduate of truly enlightening training courses including Jason Crandell's Advanced Teacher Training, plus 'Mastering the Art of Yoga Sequencing' and 'Managing and Preventing Injuries in Yoga' continue to open my mind to all yoga’s possibilities. In my classes in my yoga studio in Beaconsfield, I share this with you, so you can start to work with your body and feel the release yoga can offer.

The Beauty of Yoga

  • Dynamic forms of yoga like Vinyasa Flow are ideal for building strength. The flowing movements and breathing help with blood flow while warming the muscles, for an effective, gentler way to train for strength.

  • Yoga is a powerful way to unlock the freedom of movement and redress imbalances. Our spine is designed to move in six different ways, yet we fall into habitual movement patterns that limit us to one or two movements.

  • Our muscles, tendons and ligaments can all be affected by too much or too little movement. Cue stiffness or injury. By doing yoga at your pace, you can start to work with your body and improve your flexibility.

  • Create space for yourself and find your flow state by connecting movement with breath. This is your opportunity to release your mind from the binds of everyday thoughts and momentum, and take it slow and meditative.

  • Find balance and perspective from the stress that can threaten to overwhelm by prioritising yourself in a mindful activity. Yoga can help soothe overworked sympathetic nervous systems, allowing you to calm a fight or flight response.
